4. Monte-Carlo, Monaco
Where the classy people go. Check out the 1863 Monte Carlo Casino. This place is steeped in history. A roulette and baccarat player's paradise.

5. Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
One of the big success stories of recent years, the Marina Bay Sands is a must for their roof-top swimming pool alone! You can always try and get a room during the Grand Prix if you're feeling flush. And when you get bored of the tables, you can explore Singapore or head to the jungles of Borneo in Malaysia. A great combo.

6. Puerto Rico, Caribbean
A friendly atmosphere and some great venues, this is about as warm a destination as you are going to find on this list. Try the old San Juan, the Dorado or the Mayaguez.

7 Bahamas, Caribbean
Grand Bahama is the place to head for players. Check out Paradise Island, next  to Nassau, with its stunning Atlantis Resort, : a 7-acre lagoon, towers, glass sculptures and great gaming. Sounds quite James Bond doesn't it? Yep- it is.

8 St Maarten-St Martin, Caribbean
Another fabulous Carribean island to head for- what more could you want on holiday? Try the underwater-themed Atlantis (see 6 above for another watery option!) or the Roman Coliseum. Family friendly.

9 Curacao, Caribbean
I know we are weighting towards the Carribean, but it's that time of year isn't it? It's cold in the north! A combo of slots, roulette, blackjack, beaches, diving, swimming with dolphins, golf and exploring the cute backstreets of Chrisoffelpark and Willemstad.

Roulette Holiday

There are plenty of places on the Internet to play Online Roulette, but where would you go on holiday if you were a roulette nut and wanted to take in a bit of sun, sand, sea and roulette?
Well, for a location that covers all of these and more, we would head for probably the most famous roulette casino of them all, and that is the Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco.

The Monte Carlo Casino opened its dooors for business in 1863, and is without doubt the most famous club on the planet for roulette, poker and blackjack.

Located in Casino Square, The Monte Carlo oozes glamour from every pore, and is a solid favourite among Europe and the planet´s super rich.

James Bond heads here in Casino Royale, and the 1995 Bond film Goldeneye has the casino as one of the locations.

The casino opens at 2pm, you´ll need to dress smart to get it (jacket and tie), and make sure that you bring and some form of ID: a driving licence or passport is fine. There is an admission fee of €10 to get in to deter tourists from aimlessly milling about trying to spot some famous names.

So if you feel the need to release your inner Bond, get on the TGV from Paris (change at Nice) or fly direct to Nice and head along the French Riviera. Vegas can try, but will never quite match the ambience of this place. There are none of the cheap Nevada tricks- you´ll see plenty of clocks and you can see the outside world which is a refreshing change from the bunkers of Las Vegas which can get a little claustrophobic.

What with the grand architecture, famous players and years of myths, you´ll get a buzz out of simply walking around and taking in the huge curtains, high ceilings and chandeliers. That´s not to mention the rows of Ferraris and Mercedes S Classes parked out front.

The only danger is that you might start to think of your self in the same monetary terms. Two hundred euros? Easy money. And one more martini, please, Shaken not stirred my man.

The Grimaldi family own 51% of the casino, so it is closely linked to the monarchy and health of this tiny state. And Monaco is one of the richest towns on the planet, thanks to the Formula one residents and the like. And once you have tired of gambling, there´s plenty to do otherwise. There´s theatre and music galore at the Grimaldi Forum and lots of people (and yacht) watching. Take in the views on the waterfront over a glass of cold rosé. The Med lies at the bottom of the mountains and you´ll spent fruitfull hours oggling the superyachts with deckhands dressed to the nines in black polo-neck jumpers.

Monaco is the world's 2nd smallest country, (it´s less than 2 square kilometres in area). Watch this space though, as they are planning to reclaim lots of land in the coming years, so expect the mountains to reduce in height and the coastline to expand out like Hong Kong.

Barcelona Casino

Barcelona, in the north-east corner of Spain, is the self styled capital city of Catalunya or Catalonia, a fiercely independent region that is separated from France by the Pyrenean mountain chain.

You can´t spend all of your time at online casino sites! Get out and head to Barcelona.

This cosmopolitan city makes a fantastic short break. Barcelona has a beach, a thriving restaurant culture producing some of the world´s best known chefs, and nightlife that refuses to stop when the sun come up in the morning.

So it makes a great holiday destination in its own right, but also caters to those of us who like a flutter at the tables, so if you are looking to combine your trip into a beach, culture, food, wine and casino holiday, look no further.

Casino Barcelona is located in one of the top spots in the city, the Port Olímpic in Barcelona, beneath the 5 star Hotel Arts and a golden sculpture on the promenade called The Fish, designed by architect Frank Owen Gehry.

There are slot machines, wheels, online slot machines, video poker games, horse racing games, roulette, blackjack and baccarat.

If you are thirsty, there are plenty of options: try the Slot Bar, Mystery Bar or the Black Jack Bar.
The line up of restaurants isn´t half bad either. This casino boasts La Brasserie, Le Gourmand, La Terrazza and Teppan-Yaki.

Sun City Casinos South Africa

Sun City is a top choice for a casino holiday if you want to combine a bit of gambling with visits to a game reserve and a game of golf or two. Its got a great mix of activities on offer, as well as world class hotels.
It´s around 2 hours from Johhanesburg and right next to the Pilanesberg National Park: home to the "Big 5" of game.
Originally built by Sol Kerzner, who constructed Casino Atlantis, it is themed on the 'The Lost City'.

This place feels pretty over the top (a bit like Las Vegas), but then it is not trying to be something else (it is a casino town!). The great thing about Sun City is that you can combine your holiday with a visit to the game parks, take in the magnificent scenery around the Cape (which is only a short internal flight away) and roam through the South Afircan winelands tasting fantastic vintages and enjoying top quality food.

On the casino front, we recommend GrandWest Casino which has a historical theme : you´ll appreciate the Victorian architecture, to the buzz of District Six.

London Casino

Although there are a few rules and tricks that you need to know in London, if you want to go for a flutter in a casino, it is well worth the extra hassle, as the casinos tend to be very exclusive, up market and smart. If you are in the city on holiday, make sure you go through these steps if you fancy a bit of time at the tables in this metropolis- it has some of the world´s most famous venues and you might well see some stars while you are there

To begin with (due to a legal requirement) you'll need to become a member - but don´t worry as this is not difficult. All you need to do is pick your club, pop around and let them have a couple of forms of ID.

You´ll then fill in an application form and you can join up on the spot. You may need to wait for 24 hours before you're allowed in though, so head off for dinner or go and see a show and you´ll be set to go later on in your holiday.

The best venues are probably in the West End of town, but ask your concierge in your hotel- there might even be one there.

Here is a list of our favourite London casinos:

Try Aspinalls Casino at 28 Curzon Street W1Y 7AE (www.AspinallsLondon.com) which is a fancy venues with stacks of history, often frequented by high-rollers and big time stars.

The Ritz Club on Picadilly in the Ritz Hotel is similar (150 Piccadilly, W1V 9DH) - www.theritzclub.com). This is ultra exclusive, and great fun when you get in, but don´t get carried away when all the big boys arrive in their Bentley Continentals later on in the evening.

If you would rather head into a casino lower down the feeding chain, then the company to look out for is Gala who have a range of casinos in several locations where you play the tables or spin the reels without having to pretend that you´re a millionaire.

There´s a good Gala Casino in Russell Square (61-66 Russell Square) or try the Gala Casino on Piccadilly Circus (196 Piccadilly)

Other options are:

The Connoisseur Club in Kensington
The Cromwell Mint on Cromwell Road.
The Gloucester Sporting Club in Harrington Gardens.

Monaco Casino

One of the snappiest places to go on a gambling holiday is the French Riviera and specifically the Principality of Monaco. A small tax free enclave that is sandwiched between France and Italy, Monaco is home to some of the swankiest casinos on the planet. Monte Carlo, as the town is known, has been made famous by countless James Bond films.

Given its location, you can mix a visit to the casinos with a tour around Nice and St Tropez to soak up the glamour of the south of France.

The famous Monte-Carlo casino (to the right) was built in 1878. You'll play blackjack, baccarat or whatever takes your fancy in a succession of rooms with stained glass windows, lavish decorations and sculptures, paintings and bronze lamps. Unlike playing at an online casino, play at Monaco and you will have to play in a jacket and tie (but this just adds to the class).
Of course, Monte Carlo is home to one of the more famous Formula 1 Grand Prix motor racing events of the year, but it also hosts a top tennis tournament, sailing regattas and has a successful soccer club, so you could also throw in some sports entertanment onto your trip if you get your timing right. The principality is pretty close to good skiing in the Alps, so you could also combine a weeks skiing with a spot of gambling in the casinos.

Las Vegas Casino

And how about Las Vegas? Well, obviously I rate the place as it is a casino mecca, but for me there is not much to do there other than play on the casinos (in terms of culture I mean). Having said that, the shows are great, the desert around the place is stunning and the place has so many different casinos and hotels that are completely over the top (only in the US could you find somewhere like this!), that you have to see it at least one time in your life.

Once you have got the Vegas casino gambling system out of your system, you can always head into the desert or to Lake Mead, where you can rent a lakeside holiday hut for less then $100 a night. Once you are there, rent out a speed boat for the day and zip up to the Hoover Dam with an ice box full of cold drinks and some lunch, drop the anchor and eat your food listening to the lake lapping against the side of the boat. It will feel a million miles from Las Vegas!

So where to go in Vegas? Well if I was to do a whirlwind tour, I would just go for the Venetian (great Chinese food here for the punters from Asia), watch the fountain show outside the Bellagio and spend a couple fo hours on the tables at The Mandalay Bay. But then that´s because I am not so found of the cheesier properties (Egyptian theme anyone?). But if that is your thing, you will find a mountain of choice, and who am I to say that that´s a bad thing?
